For those who have a Spohn torque arm...

did you notice any improvements? I am thinking of getting one in the next week or two and was curious what the improvements are? The reason I want it right now is for more exhaust clearance. Are there any downsides or negative aspects of using this? Does anyone have a picture of it installed?
TIA

The Spohn Torque arm is awesome. I would highly recommend it. The biggest down fall I encountered was the extra road noise. Most people say they drop .2 tents off there 1/4 mile.

The Spohn suspension parts are "as good as it gets".

Its hard to pin down the specific value of any one component, when you have a complete system, but any "beefier" TA is going to increase front end lift in response to torque. Getting that load off the tailshaft of the tranny, and into the chassis, as the Spohn arm does, is a major step in the right direction. I think its fair to say that the more power you are putting down, the more advantage you will gain.

Here's a whole page of Spohn stuff, although most of it is his new "drag" style rear sway bar. But there are a couple of photos of the TA as well.

Thanks for the replies and pictures. What is the "road noise" that seems to be the only downside to putting one of these in?

About the only other downside beside increased noise from the differential is reduced ground clearance. Especially if you get the version for the Mufflex 4" y-pipe. I have this torque arm and there are pictures in my sig of what ground clearance is like with it, and my car is not lowered.

You have a choice on how the front of the bar is attached to the mounting bracket. Serious race use generally requires a "spherical rod end", and that is essentially a metal-to-metal connection that is inherently noisy. It rattles, and transmitts every bit of noise that reaches the TA, including all the rear axle noise.

The alternative is using a poly bushing in place of the rod end. Still noiser than stock, but maybe 1/2 the noise of the rod end.

It is adjustable and it even comes with its own magnetic level for setting negative pinion angle.

You will love the traction after the relocation brackets are on.

Thumbs up

I got the Spohn TQ Arm & have not seen any gains from it at the track. However I do like the fact that it is bolted on the bottom of the car & not the tail shaft of the trans. When cutting 1.60 60' times with a stock TQ arm, I didn't like the strain my tail shaft was seeing... It does ride rough but I got used to it....

How much ground clearance would you say that the TA mount costs?? When I completely redo my suspension, I'm putting hypercoil springs in it, which drop the car 2" or thereabouts, and I don't want to be too close to the ground with the TA mount.
