Supporting the motor?

I am in the middle of doing a crossmember swap, and have the old one ready to come out, and the new one is all ready to go in. I was planning on renting an engine hoist, but was wondering if it would be safe to support the engine with a jack and a peice of wood under the oil pain for the 30 minutes its going to take. I think I had it up for longer than that when i was doing my headers.

Should i just go rent the hoist or save the $50 and buy some beer/steak when im done?

If it worked for you then, why would it not work for you now?

I too have to swap out my engine cradle. Mine's bent. Where is the best place to buy one? I checked all the junk yards around me and none had Z28s.

Just buy a STB and use it.

A strut tower brace doesn't have anything to do with supporting the motor like what he's wanting to do. He's trying to remove a cross member...or maybe he meant k-member?

It will do perfectly want he wants. Hold the motor up via STB instead of an engine hoist. It's been done before and it will be done again.

Re: Supporting the motor?

I would use a hoist or the strut tower brace to hold it up. Why risk it with a board and a jack... What happens if you accidently hit the board, also if you use a hoist you will have more room to work under there. JMHO
