hey shoebox, im getting the cc306, but i have to wait a year or a year and a 1/2 to get my heads p&p.. do you think its a bad idea to use the 306 then? Or should i get a diff cam.. i wanted the 306 because as i add parts i want to push alot more power later... cab i run the 306 without doing this head work? or would i have a better chance of spinning a bearing ;o

No particular cam is going to make you spin a bearing. I think there are plenty of people out there running a 306 on stock heads. It is just that when you run a big cam, you need all the supporting hardware to realize it's full potential.

I spun mine 10 miles after my cam install. I also think it was due to the excess abuse of a blower on a stock shortblock.

my thurst bearing went 6k miles after my stroker rebuild ... shavings from the oil drive gear off the cam. Apar. that wasnt swapped out when the motor was done and the new cam gear chewed up the drive since it was broken in with the stock cam. just ordered a new one ($39 from cromer) with the new cam, not taking any more chances.

I lost a few bearings 100 miles after my install of the first cam. I am pretty much sure as to why. You know those scotch-bright pads that are useful when cleaning an engine. I used those and obviously got some of it in the motor and the oil filter is not able to filter that out, too small of a particle. I had read on here over and over and got the feeling that alot of people used them. But as soon as i got done and spun the bearings i read on here that GM had put out this mailing to service managers to stop using the disc b/c the particles are too small for the filter to catch.

So that is what I contribute mine to.

Mine was right after making an 1/8th mile pass, the car shut off and then started a small chirp, thought it might be the idler pulley but on the way home found out different. Needless to say I had a crank that had an 1/8th" deep groove on the #1.

Oh well....
