Thinking of swapping a 96 LT1 into my 67...

A friend of mine had bought a 1996 LT1/4l60E combo for his 38 ford about a year ago.

Now he's going to go a different route - his son has 1999 4.6L SVT Mustang engine that he is going to buy and put in his ol' rod.

He will sell me the LT1/4l60E for $1500 (can$) complete with Heddman headers and aftermarket wiring harness.
The only thing it's missing is the PCM, which I could buy through MadZ28 for $140 bucks.

He doesn't therefore I don't know much about the history of the motor. Compression test was good though.

I'm thinking I've got a straight swap on my hands! Just plumb in a fuel return line and buy an inline pump for the added pressure of the EFI and it should run..........the tranny will be bit of difficulty getting the electronic speedo to work.......but I'll research it.

My 1967 is a Sport Coupe with a 350/TH350 combo.......it's decent but could be better - I could likely sell that for $500 or so!!

Should I do it?

I would do it. Sounds like you would get a more efficient motor that is a little better on mpg. Plus the added bonus of the overdrive in the 4l60e.

I think $1500 is high. If the trans was newly rebuild then I would consider it. Unknown motor and trans histrory for too much money. If the harness is from Painless then that's why it's so high. Then I can see why he wants $1500. If it's a stock harness then $1000 for both on an unknown motor/trans is more than fair imo.

I did it in a 66 el camino with a 200r4, Harness and computer tune was 1000.00 on it's own. It's a good swap and use the 96 camaro radiator since hose sizes tend to be a problem with older cars radiators.
