I use 0W30 german castrol seemed to quiet the valvetrain up and my oil pressure is up a tad at normal operating temp. Ive heard you can go for a long time (up to 15k) on that oil but regardless I change mine every 2k(not necessary but w.e).

Don't even waste your time---there as many different opinions on oil as there are gearheads. Using a good quality oil and changing it along with filter on an as-needed/recommended basis should do it for most applications. Even a long lasting synthetic will get dirty and need to be changed.

I guess you can go with the opinion that if your engine is well-worn--use a heavier, non-syn oil. Many, if not most, new cars recommend nothing but synthetics, but they also want you to buy the more costly oil.

Go with whatever you want as long as it lubricates adequately--providing good oil pressure---and you change it when needed. JMHO

that is very bad for your car, every time you change the oil the motor goes through a dry start and causes slight wear. that is the reason for extending oil change intervals

if its a race car it does not matter cause you will be rebuilding anyway

do you think filling the oil filter with oil before putting it on helps, cause I do this.

dry start is an issue but not much.... if u just crank it over like 2 or 3 times and real quick kill it... then start it it should be fine... well thats our dry start procedure at sullivan tire neways where i work...

Where do you think you are getting information?
Meaning you are likely getting marketing BS rather than information.
Based on actual measured results and information the Castrol Syntec 0w-30 labled Made in Germany is a tough one to beat.

dwayne, can i ask your opinion on weight

i know you usually recommend 0w-30 but my machine shop recommends a 10-30. what is your belief on running a thinner oil. thank you

It is not the weight that leads to that recommendation but rather results of that particular oil in that particular weight. It is also not thinner than 10w-30, matter of fact it happens to be thicker than many 10w-30s.

This is what I mean, there are more bad assumptions and "information" out there than good.

buy cheap oil from napa or carquest......

anything else is a waste of money...I don't care what any test says...it works fine, you will see an engine failure for someother reason before you see anything related to a regular oil.

If the oil is clean, oil bearing clearances are right and no phisical failures.....no problem.....

I realize performance stuff is different(but mainly clearances) look at tractor trailers dump trucks etc.....they get alot of abuse and use old junk oil...rotella-T...I used that in my car before.

I have a truck with well over 500k on it orig engine etc. and still runs good good oil press etc. only thing ever in it was cheap stuff.

If you think I'm stupid then thats fine...I may be.......but I don't waste money on the latest and greatest "german oils"
