Thumbs up thinking about buying 4th gen TA

i have had my 89 iroc-z for about 3 years i love the thing to death, but i was thinking about ading on to my f-body collection i have always loved how the ta's looked and was thinking about buying a 95 ta with lt1 and 6 speed tranny i was wondering if they were pretty reliable cars and what i could expect to be running in the 1/4 mile with the engine being stock!

Go for it. These cars run low 14's stock and if you can drive well high 13's. It will be a bit harder to work on though than your IROC. One look under the hood will reveal this.

mebanditws6 is right, the LT1s arent the easiest engines to work on but they arent that hard either. The only problem with the LT1 is the rear of the engine is under the cowl. Other than that they are pretty simple to work on, its just the small about of space. Definitely get the T/A, it will be worth it.

Their good cars, find one with low miles. The Optis aren't as bad as people make them out to be. They do respond well to mods.

I don't think the 4th gens are much harder to work on than 3rd gens (at least the TPI models). "Easy" is a relative term , but just look around this site and see how many folks do their own mods (hint: it's a lot).

Nah, L98 or LB9 car are a lot easier to work on and get to stuff. A lot easier than a 4th gen.

High 13's are possible bone stock if you are a very good driver, more like low 14's for most of us. I don't think they are any less reliable than the 3rd gens were but they are no Honda's or anything either Check out the bottom of my page for a great buyers guide for 4th gen LT1's from GMHTP magazine.
