Thinking about 100k car?

I looked at a 94 formula auto 103xxx for 4700 obo. The body wasnt bad needs to be buffed. The car seemed to run fine. The only think i didnt like about the car is that i think that someone might of had the dash out of it b/c the tach said it was idleing at like 300 rpm and the oil pressure was very low. the oil gauge was jump up if i gave it gas but idle it was just barely above the red. If the oil was that low wouldnt i hear ticking from the lifters when i open the hood? I didnt so i think that the gauge might be messed up. The guy sells cars on the side so he said he bought it at a auction and knows nothing about the car. What other things should i look at? Is this a good deal?

Don't buy that car for that money. The oil pressure gauge cold be right, and the motor is on it's last leg.

Re: Thinking about 100k car?

i paid 5400 bucks for my Z. When i bought it, it had 102k miles on it, but it was clean and ran awsomely. Two years later, its at 132k miles, has a couple of mods and runs excellently still. No opti or any kind of motor problems... knock on wood. I agree that the price seems a bit high for a car with obvious problems. But you shouldnt knock it cause of the high milage. Good luck finding a better one.

paid 5500 for my TA, m6 '94. didn't buy it private so i paid a little more. car was in excellent condition for the miles (105k), body was straight as an arrow, idled great, doesn't leak a thing (which was a perk), and was bone stock when i got it. i've put 10k miles on it so far, with long tubes going on soon to finish my bolt-ons, and it runs great. with the problems you mentioned i'd keep looking, you'll find something better.

Uh oh time for the "I paid this for my bird/camaro" posts. :-D I paid $3500 for my formula with 130k on the dial. All that was wrong was the egr. So I ripped it out along with the rest of the emissions junk. Like everyone else has said, keep looking. They're out there.

Ditto. I have 144K on my daily driver `95 Z28, and it still runs strong. I bought it at 100K for $6000, and I am planning to sell it once I get the exhaust on for about $3900-$4500. But the paint is in really good condition, and I can`t think of anything major that is wrong with it.
Is the needle actually getting near the red, or does it actually drop into the red? The oil pressure is low on both my Firehawk and Z28, but not in the red. If I hit the gas, the needle jumps up like you are describing. All of my LT1`s (and I`ve had 6 so far) have responded this way.
