Thinking Of A 355
Thinking Of A 355
I spun a rod bearing last summer and after tearing it down I haven't messed with it since. I have been painting the engine bay and working on the body and appearance. My cylinder walls got pitted pretty bad from rust (i keep wd-40 on them but just not enough). I guess my only option at this point is boring it. I don't want to put the big bucks toward a stroker right now so i will probably go with punching it to a 355. I have seen some impressive #'s from other peoples. I will probably go forged pistons and rods and keep the stock crank. Is this a good idea? Maybe somebody can point me in the right direction to get some info/stats on the 355. How much? what all do i need? these kind of questions. I have the hotcam kit with gasket matched ported and polished heads. The heads have also been decked .010. Would it benefit me that much looking into the LE packages? If anybody could help me out i would greatly appreciate it.
Re: Thinking Of A 355
this is what i gathered so far. Block bored .030, custom cam, forged pistons, forged rods, thinking about afr heads, ported intake. Does this sound good? I need some feedback. I did a search but nothing i could really use. I need some specifics. Good websites to go to? Prices? machine work?
Re: Thinking Of A 355
I'm still in the process of getting my 355 together. So this might help you out. I'm still using the stock crank and stock rods, SRP Pistons. Machine work for everything was $590. With the decking and the milling of the heads chances are your intake won't line up. I had to elongate the holes on the intake to make it work. If you are going to another style head like you pointed out your intake might not need adjusting.
As for putting the motor together not to sure what the cost for you would be, I did mine myself.
I replaced all head, crank and rod bolts with ARP bolts. I also installed a new cam, new springs, new lifters, gaskets, valve covers and a TCI SFI Flexplate. Had some more work on the heads (flow much better now) plus they setup up the spring height on the heads for me as well assembled them $790, so far I have about $2500-$2800 dollars in this build up, just flat gave up trying to keep track of the cost after it passed the $1500 mark

Re: Thinking Of A 355
I installed the hotcam kit in mine right before the bearing spun. My heads are porter and polished (at home by me) and were decked .010 at the machine shop. Should I get the blocked bored and decked, get new pistons, and put everything back together? What kind of power would i be looking at (take a guess because i know it depends on a lot of things)? How much for a set of forged pistons? Should i go with forged rods? As you can see, i have many questions. Thanks for the help
