Think my clutch is toast! What shall i get?

Missed a shift the other day and the car was suddenly extremely hard to get into any of the gears. After it cooled down it seems to shift alright, but i think there is not much life left in this clutch. It is a stock replacement with about 20k on it. I need a reasonably priced clutch that can handle 1.7 60's and have good street manners. My buddy has a single disc mcleod setup, but it has quite a bit of chatter to it. I also hear that spec stage 3's seem to break quite a bit and seems to chatter quite a bit as well. Also, how much is a new master cylinder?

So far I've had great luck with my Spec stage II. Drives almost like stock, has a little bit of chatter but not bad. Chirps my Nittos at the track.

Don't really have any feedback for a clutch disc. I am going with the SLP setup. Probably wont hold 1.7 60ft times though. I couldn't find anything reliable that is stronger. Seems like people have problems with everything else except for the twin disc. Not really prepared to spend $1k on a clutch now though. I have never had any reliability problems with an SLP product and I am mostly street driven(tires slip before clutch.) Supposedly SPEC fixed their issues but I'm waiting for some feedback before I commit.

Anyway I just bought a new master cylinder, it comes as a pre-bled kit including master, slave and resevoir. $94.95 from Dal Slabaugh. Much better than trying to piece together old parts and bleed them IMO. Do a search for his current phone# as I dont have it handy.

Good luck and let us know if you find a good disc.

Chris

Good looking car by the way. That blue intake is very unique.
What kind of intake elbow is that you are running?

I think i am going to go with the centerforce. I know 2 people that had the centerforce and it doesn't seem to chatter at all. One of them is cutting 1.5 60's. Little more than the spec but i think it is worth it because of the streetability.

How long have you had the clutch? I'm sure the clutch you have could handle 600+ hp just driving around or 400rwhp giving it hell on the street, but i'll bet that clutch will not handle a 1.7 60'. The clutch you have looks to be a basically a stock clutch. How much is the slp pressure plate by itself? The centerforce disk? Maybe i will mix and match if it comes out to be a lower price than the centerforce package.

I am using the Spec stage 3. Yes it did chatter like crazy till it got broken in. Don't remember the miles for break in. Now it chatters once in a while. If you are planning on doing the heads, then you probably gonna need a heavy duty clutch, like the street twin or spec stage 3. You could also order a LT-4 pressure plate and take the clutch disc you have in the car now and have it resurfaced. Just ask the shop what exactly you want and they should be able to get what you need. Oh yea I also drive my car to work every day in stop and go traffic on the freeway at sometimes crawlling speeds. It drives fine with the Spec stage 3 setup. This is my 4th clutch.

My RAM POWERGRIP is grippier than hell, only chattered for like 1000 miles. It was like $380 or so.
