Thermostat question

I recently got a new thermostat from a local parts store. I dont remember the label on the thermostat nor did i even really ask about it. i just needed a new one and they said the one they gave me was for my car in their parts book. My question is i think this thermostat may be a 160 degree thermostat which i now realize is beneficial to me. At the time i didnt really realize this so i just took what they gave me. But now i have it in and ive noticed my car always runs just about exactly at 160 degrees. Does this for sure tell me that it is a 160 degree thermostat or is it possible it is a normal 180 degree and im just runnin cooler???

Well, if it's working correctly and keeping the engine cool, I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Also, kinda curious, you say your temp stays around 160? I thought even with a 160 thermostat that the temp would still get around 180 or so. It almost sounds like it's stuck open. Or the guys at the parts store gave you the wrong thermostat. LT1's use reverse cooling heads, which I believe use a longer stat than a regular small block Chevy. It may be that it's not closing all the way, causing it to run really cool.

Someone that knows more than me might be able to tell you more.

I would say ita 160 cuz when i had my regular one in it was at about 180 to 190. Now that I have my 160 in it stays right at 160 or a little above

yeh i am pretty sure that its the right thermostat. it is extra long and it looks exactly like the pics of other lt1 thermostats ive seen. i dont know for sure if its a 160 or not all i know is my car always runs at 160. could this be some kind of serious problem if it isnt a 160 degree thermo?

We'll hook my Scanmaster up to it sometime and see what kinda coolant temps you really have. There's two temp sensors, one in the waterpump housing and one on the driver's side head. One goes to the gauge and the other to the PCM.

You said it was the AC Delco thermo, right? Could be your guage is off or something. More than likely it's the 180*.

Why not pull it and see?
Temp should be stamped on it..
Not that hard to do, and only way to know for sure..
