Thermostat???

Guys as some of you know I bought a 95 TA this weekend. I am wanting to get a slightly lower temp thermostat. What does it come with stock and what should I put in it? I think they come with 195's and I was thinking of going to a 180 so I don't haveto switch back in the winter...thanks...

not sure where to get a 180 stat, but what ever you do make sure you find one that is specifically for the LT1...reverse cooled. an average sbc stat won't work in the lt1...

you could try just drilling a few small holes around the perimeter of the stock stat...that should help a bit

Ohh, it is already a 180....maybe some of you guys can shed some light on this, but when I had my Iroc(I know it's a different car) 160s I was told were bad in the winter time because it didn't allow the engine to reach optimal operating temperature, has anyone else heard that? If it is running too cool it can actually be bad for the pistons whats up with that? Should I be concerned about it?

wear rates of the metals are much migher (upto 3x as high from my readings here) with a colder stat. Rings wear less when they are hot

Weather in OKC is similar to LR. What I do is put the 180 back in during the winter. During the summer, the engine gets plenty warm even with the 160.
