Is there any way to...

Is there anyway to change the rear seal on the engine without pulling the motor. I believe it is leaking. I have a 94 z28, 383 A4, I really dont want to pull then engine, but Im guessing I might have to. Also it seems almost im possible to me, how do you just drop the trans on an a4 car with out pulling the motor, because bolt access looks limited? Thanks for the help.

I have not personally done it, but am told that you can change the rear main with engine in car. Pan does not have to be dropped. Tranny has to come out, though. The top tranny to engine bolts can be reached with several long extensions and the back of the tranny lowered.

Yes, it can be done but no one said it would be easy! As for the trans, it helps if you have the right tools. A 36" extention and flex a socket usually works for me.

Yeah, you can change the rear main with the engine in the car, but as stated, you will have to drop the trans.

Pull the motor to change out the seal is kind of extreme.

Just slide the tranny out. Annoying but cheaper to do.
