Question Are there any simple ways to adjust the steering wheel?

Lately, I have been noticing a wobble or shimmy in my steering wheel between 40-60 mph. Should I just take the car in and have it adjusted, or is there something simple that can be retightened, etc to solve this. Also, there seems to be about a 1/2 in. to inch of play in the steering wheel both left and right before it actually starts to turn the wheels. I remember it being extremely tight in the past..., gradually it seems to be getting sloppier. It could be the fact that I yank it both left and right; and go around corners too quick. Either way, any suggestions?

Well, the shimmy could be a wheel that is not balanced or some similar problem. As for the steering play, I would first get under the hood and have a look at the steering link that comes through the firewall and into the rack. If joints on that are okay, then your rack might be the culprit. Not sure of that can be adjusted...?
