TFS heads

im looking to get a set of TFS heads from either lloyd elliot, or AI. i just want to know the differences between what the two companys do to the head. looks like with both the upgrades from lloyd, they would run about 2100, and flow over 300 cfm. from AI, their 2495, and flow the same. i noticed they use differnet springs, which is better? any other differences? is there any reason to spend the extra money for the AI heads? thanks guys

Re: TFS heads

Ever considered T.E.A? I had them do a set of FAC 190's a couple of years ago and they were awesome

They have a 220cc head for a lt1 that flows 262cfm at .400 and 300cfm at .500 and peaks at 318cfm at .700 where most heads go turbolent or sonic before .700
Price is 2k and they also have a 200cc for 1800

I

TEA, Lloyd Elliott, Advanced Induction can all help you reach nearly any goal. Talk to them and use who you decide can give you want you want.

Flow numbers only tell part of the story...

Re: TFS heads

The difference is going to be in the port shape mostly. Put them side by side and you likely wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Either shop is more than capable of doing what you want. Talk to both and go with which one you feel has the better deal.

Re: TFS heads

TEA heads are flowed with a 4.125 bore.... which i dont think you can get safely with an lt1 block right? other than the gm race block...

Stock bore is 4.000, most don't bore over 4.060 [.060 over] on these blocks. There are several ways to inflate numbers, hence why talking to the porters is ideal.

Re: TFS heads

yeah... im planning a 383 so it will be a 4.030 bore... just wondering if the extra money for the AI heads is worth it. is a CNC port job better than a hand ported head?

That's the age old question...

CNC porting is more consistent. It more closely mimics the original shape the porter found to give the best results. If the ports mimicked flow well and that original engine made good power, you can reasonably expect every copy to be the same.

There is nothing wrong with hand porting. It is not as consistent engine to engine but I can't see how that's much of a problem for most guys with 1 or 2 engines. Remember that the CNC program came from a hand port job at some point....

All said, it all depends on the original port work. I've had better performance with my CNC ported stock heads (the now defunct More Performance) than my friend had with his hand ported stock heads (done by a well respected hand porter). That truly doesn't mean a thing....

If you are going for max performance, consider aftermarket casting...AFR or AI both do a great job.
