Testing Knock Sensor resistance??

I'm trying to do this but I can't get my multimeter to read anything. I am setting it on the 200K ohm (100 ohm resolution) setting and putting one terminal in the KS and the other on the oil pan stud that grounds the pcm. I can't get it to read for ****. It is just reading 1 like it is too much resistance. The key is off and the KS wire is unhooked. What am I doing wrong? I am new at this, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Testing Knock Sensor resistance??

Try a lower range on the meter... you're only looking for 4,500 ohms. Are you sure you have the probe wires plugged into the "ohms" sockets on the meter?

Re: Testing KS resistance??

I'm sure I have the wires in the right sockets. There are only 3 and the third is for 10A (whatever that is). Ah, I was thinking 45K ohms. I still think I tried everyone to see if I could get a reading and I couldn't. I can do the 20K ohm setting (with 10 ohm resolution) and try again. I just stick the red probe into the sensor and the black probe to some grounded metal, right? I'm sorry to bug about such a simple concept. I thought it would be easy and then I couldn't get a reading and I felt like a dumba$$. I appreciate the help Injuneer.
