Tested coil with shoebox's coil test

okay well i had alot of arching at my coil area last night changed the coil wire and did not change nothing , got on shoebox's page and Coil continuity test im using a handheld voltmeter, I tested each of the 4 terminals on the coil with the key on at X1k ohms
all 4 terminals got the best of 3.5 ohms does this mean my coil is shot or am i using this voltimeter right?

So, you got ~3500 ohms. The test was mostly put up so an open coil could be diagnosed (IOW, there would be infinite resistance).

I think my MSD coil is ~5300 ohms. I really don't know how low is too low. What kind or brand of coil is it?

I couldn't tell you for sure. I am not an electrical engineer or a coil expert. I will say that your reading seems unusual for what I have observed on a stock coil.

A shorted coil would read less ohms. Now as far as what a normal LT1 coil should read , I have no idea, but I will check mine when I get home.

If you have an Autozone, take the coil there. They can test it, and they have a chart with the specs.
