Tearing down the LT1...Heres some pics. And a question.

My 96 Z28 has 116,450 miles on it. I am taking it off the road for the winter, yes i know its august but my insurance renews in a week so i deceided to ride the bike for 3 months till its cold and then ill just drive the Durango.

I am going to be doing a custom head and GM847 cam in this bad boy. I dont think i have to tough the bottom end as of yet.

Here are some pics of what it looks like.......tell me what you think...should i rebuild it or not? If i dont have to i really dont want to.

I would like my set up to be.
GM847
Stage 2 or even 3 port job, depends on machine shop prices
1.6RR's
Double coil valve springs
Intake runners opened up on head and intake manifold
throttle body inlets opended up 58mm
58mm throttle body

Is it possible to hit 400 to the ground with that set up??

No one can give you an expert opinion on a rebuild by just looking at those pics. Bearing and ring wear, cylinder condition, compression and leakdown values and such would be key factors.

I still got lots of oil p after the 847 cam swap it loves it.

Pulling the bottom end and checking bearings is where the final determination
is . Bearing surfaces tell exactly what kind of condition the motor is in

I say rebuild the bottom end due to the high mileage plus the cam you are talking about will easily rev past 6500 rpm and with that much mileage on the bottom end it's gonna blow and you'll be doing this all over again.
