TB questions.BBK,holley,etc.

What make of tb are you running and what size.Do you have any problems with it and did you notice any sotp gains or dyno or et gains.
I have heard the bbk aren't so great and was going to go edelbrock but hear they are just bbk. Also what about holley and think another company makes one..tpis or something.? I don't want problems with my tb.
Also should I just get a 58 since they are same price and not worry if intake is matched to it right now.Plan on likely heads,cam/headers as long term plan.Seems to me stupid to buy a 52 and then upgrade to a 58.
So mostly concerned with whether you current aftermarket tb works properly.

With my setup, I went with a Holley 52mm. It's hands-down the best looking throttle body (next to the AS&M), but some may consider it to be a bit pricey (almost $400). The only modification I had to do with it was to slot the TPS mounting holes to adjust it to proper voltage. I can't tell you if I received any gains from it, simply because I added a TON of other stuff to the motor at the same time.

Even for a higher HP N/A motor, a 52mm would be fine. But if you insist on "bigger is better", then go for the 58mm. Keep in mind that you will need to port the intake manifold for it to fit. Here's a picture of my Holley:

Hope this helps!

Re: TB questions.BBK,holley,etc.

I went with the 52mm Holley because it is polished and looks the nicest. I only had one MINOR issue, the blades sometimes would not shut all the way. At idle I would just have to hold the break a little more than usual, this was fixed by popping it in neuteral and blipping the pedal. This would bring them shut, and the rpm to normal. This was on the first test drive. I went home and put graphite lubricant on the area in which the shaft, that connects to the blades, goes through the housing. That was two years ago and have had no further issuses.
As far as gains, I don't have any dyno #'s but, it felt like it really picked up the car in the upper rpms. Another thing I noticed was it seemed to hit the next gear and not drop off as much. It seemed to hitthe next gear with a "full head of steam", but then again it was most likey do to the better breathing at higher rpms.

I too have the Holley 58mm. I actually had the same problem that the guy did from above. The throttle blades would not shut unless the throttle was closed rapidly. It was a pain in the A$$ becasue I have a 6-speed and every time I pushed in the clutch the car would rev to ~4000 RPM. Kind of embarrassing at a stoplight. I had the same problem with three of them. The problem is not interference with the shaft, it is the throttle linkage. Where your throttle cable connects that piece is aluminum it is essentially riveted to a metal plate that has the throttle stop on it and the rivet is where there is play. I ended up drilling and taping a hole all the way through the aluminum into the metal plate and put a SS bolt in it. Problem solved.

Your stock TB should be fine w/ heads and cam....GMHTP did tests on this not so long ago...even w/ big power ie.383/blower think they only went to a 5400. Up to you, but I could find a better place to spend 300 plus dollars.

I got a ported 52mm TB off of EBay and have not had any problems with it. the only thing that went wrong was my TPS was already worn, so I just had to replace it.
