TB Bypass question
Hey guys, love the forum. Anytime I need help, you guys are always on it. Thanks!
Anyway, DUMB@$$ question. This is my 1st LT1 (had a 3.4) and I'm learning.
I am going to perform a TB bypass tomorrow morning and just wanted to know...what exactly does the tb bypass do? Does it really make a difference? (I assume yes due to the fact that EVERYONE has done it)
Thanks again.

At www.ws6.com They have a dyno graph saying it gained about 8 RWHP with just the TB bypass mod.
I did it, didn't feel anything in the seat of my pants or anything. My intake and TB are a lot cooler now though.
Basically u just need a a piece of 3/16th tubing and some clamps and ur all set. Takes about 20 minutes to do, if that. Just don't leak coolant on ur Opti.

your not going to gain hp it will just stay close to the hp you have when you first start the car up because the tb will not get hot from the coolant going through it......in city driving on a hot day it will probably hurt hp because through convection the tb will get hoote than the coolant passing through it would be so at that point the coolant would keep it cooler.....but in normanl driving the air charge through the cai will keep the tb close to air temp....therfore letting you keep the hp that the hot tb would take away.....it desnt in a sense add hp ...for instance if you go out and your engine is cold and do the bypass it wont give you more hp then
there are really only 2 advantages to the TB bypass.
1. decrease the number of areas coolant may possibly leak from.
2. if you take off your TB then you dont leak coolant all over the place in the process.

Actually the only reason that coolant was routed through the TB is for really cold climates, so the throttle blades would not ice up.
I seriously doubt it would cool the TB down, why would the TB ever get really hot?
In a moderate climate there is no reason to have hot coolant running through the TB.

Keeps the TB cooler than it would be with "hot" coolant passing through it constantly from the heads.
Anytime you can reduce the temp of the intake air a bit, you're doing a good thing.JMHO

no
the only reason everyone has done it is because everyone has had to pull their throttle body off at one point or another.
just wait till you need to pull the intake for the intake oil leak before you do it... when i pulled mine the hoses were stuck solid to the throttle body and the only way to get them off was to cut them. definantly not worth it unless you absolutly need to.
I cut the passenger side hose today to get it off, there is still about 3 inches of hose connected to the throttle body on that side, i am not really worrying about it, however shoudl i plug up that hose and the nipple on the drivers side or just leave it alone?
Good question CamaroGuy. I had to cut my 90* elbow hose also to get it off. It was a f*&king b!tch. TB bypass is done though.
Anasazi, you an x-files fan? I live by UCF as well.
And another question, I took off my intake to do the TB bypass and noticed that it looks pretty simple to descreen the MAF sensor. I have noticed that it seems to be another popular "free" mod. What exactly does that do? Less restrictive airflow through the MAF? Something I should consider?
