TB Bypass, to do or not to do?

My engine runs pretty cool w/ the 160 thermostat, I'm trying to get some input on what the advantages would be of bypassing the TB coolant. Is it true that when the engine and TB is heat soaked having the TB bypass still makes more power? For example, what about here in Texas in the summers when it's VERY hot, will having the TB bypass be a bad thing? With the temperatures of the engine, it seems the TB would absorb a lot of the heat from the intake and engine, and hurt power. Is that a correct assumption or am I way off? I've seen dyno gains of up to 6 rhwp on a heat soaked engine w/ TB bypass, seems like that can't hurt ya huh?

I dont know about hp gains but it sure does make it easier to take the TB off for cleaning.......its very easy to do so why not do it.....no down side to it.

My car used to feel sluggish as soon as it was heat soaked... I always loved the "first thing in the morning" power feeling but as soon as noon would kick in... my car was a turkey. I did the Mod and whoah... I did not gain HP per say... Actually it kept the car from loosing power.

so I have the same power as if I cranck her first thing in the morning but all day and night ... So in my opinion it keeps your from loosing power. I would say 7hp recovered is a good estimate.

....yeah, it doesn't add H.P, it keeps you from losing it. I think the reason the factory puts it on there has something to do with it helping in cold weather... Bill...

The TB bypass is actually dyno tested to add between 6-7hp.

if you are prone to having bad luck, like me I wouldnt bother.Lets just say a month ago or so I did the TB bypass. NOw im tearing apart the top end to replace head gaskets(not an actual result of the bypass though)

Here's another dyno chart that pretty much says the same thing. Definitely a good "free" mod.

After my cam swap, I thought I was possibly sukcing in coolant, so I did it. It's easy, and might give you a couple ponies.
