Taking out webing in Stock Valve Covers

Hey guys can i just take my angle grinder to the webing in my stock valve covers. Are they really used for that much support. I am running different rockers and am going to run into clearance problems. I searched for a few pics but all the links i go turned up dead. Thanks for the info

I just used a cut off wheel, you dont need to take the center out where the bolt goes, just the piece between there and the cover.

I didn't have to remove mine to get the Pro Magnums in. I just needed to bend the ears straight for clearance.

Check Golen engines site. Just do a Google search to find the site.

He posted a pic showing where to cut the LT covers. I believe the pic is in the Tech section down near the bottom of the page.

The webs help spread the bolt loads to the perimeter of the covers, to help the gaskets seal better. If you have to cut anything out, don't take any more than you have to.

Some clear and some don't.

I just ordered a new set of taller covers because my stock composite covers won't clear the poly locks on my 1.7 RRs.

I tried grinding one of the covers enough to clear and only ended up with a nice, nickel size hole in one of the covers. Now I've got to modify the A/C -Alternator brace to clear the new, taller covers.

Bending is probably better but tedious. I uised tinsnips to cut mine, one side of the supports only. 5 min.

It only took me 2 minutes to do both valve covers, I don't think that qualifies as tedious.

The Crane Gold Race S/A RRs fit without removing the web-bracing.

Were you just flattening out the formed beads? I tried that a few times first, and had to work each bead a couple of minutes and still couldn't get them flat enough to clear. Maybe I just need bigger pliers. Anyway, you must have a better technique than I did. Share it?

Yep, I just used vice grips and clamped them down and released then moved down the the brace until it was all flat then moved onto the next brace, they fit on my first try.
