TA project questions
Im buying a 96 ta shell off a member from here, gonna put ls1 front end on it. Has uncut wiring, no pcm, no motor, no tranny, no abs, no havoc, no back seats. has 3.42 gears.
Question is as far as ease of installing and saving me headaches. with a combo of keeping price down
how should i go about putting a new motor and tranny in?
goals are, bullet proof auto tranny (4 speed), 350-400 rwhp. Motor to handle at least 100 shot. does not have to have emission hook up
options I thought of:
1) get lt1 w/ auto tranny whole complete swap out of another car. swap cam and heads. worried about bottom end on used motor.
2) get lt1 built by local shop, and tranny(which tranny) by local shop and worry about all of the parts to make it run. might cost more???
3) ls1 swap, seems like a headache waiting to happed. just say yes or no to that
4) throw a built carb'd motor, bypass computer?
any help with getting my plans going in the right direction will help, car is going to be a street and strip car, mostly street.
thanks in advance

For the power goals you have in mind, you can easily achieve those with heads/cammed LT1. Check out www.eportworks.com and check out his combos. As for the bottom end, if you are looking for something preassembled and capable of dropping right in, you could look into www.victoryracingengines.com where they sell short and long block LT1s.
