Have you checked the "how to" databases at

Brent Franker's website

and at

Project TransAM?

Or "Install University" or whatever it is called?

Do a search. I found 2 decent writeups by doing a search on this topic. I don't have them saved or else I would post them now. I just printed them off and then threw them away. I have had my T56 out twice now and it is really pretty easy. Here's an abridged version:

Remove your center console and shifter. Jack up the car and support it on jackstands at the four corners. Support the diff and the oil pan with jacks (use wood between jack and car). Drop the tunnel brace, then drop the driveshaft and torque arm. Undo the 2 nuts holding in the slave cylinder, remove that as well as its housing and hang the slave cylinder out of the way. Then pull the clutch fork down to disengage it. There are 8 (I thinK) 15mm bolts holding the trans to the bellhousing. Remove the 7 you can get to (you'll next swivels and extensions) and then undo the nut in the center of the tranny crossmember and then loosen (but don't remove!) the 4 bolts holding in the crossmember. This lets the trans sag so you can reach that dastardly top bolt from inside the car. Snake about 2.5 feet of extensions through the shifter hole to get that bugger out. Jack up the trans (again w/ wood) then remove the crossmember and the bolts. With the trans supported, stick a screwdriver in between the bellhousing and trans and pry the trans away. A second person come in handy here. Once the trans is far enough away, you can drop it down. Installation is the reverse, pretty easy once you've done it once. HTH

I bought one of those $15 Haynes manuals at autozone. I would say with avearage mechanical skills you would be able to do it yourself.

pull the fork out before pulling the tranny out, for everything else you don't even need a manual. write me if you encounter any questions

Its that long black stamped steel "thing" that runs parallel to your driveshaft and connects the tailshaft of the tranny (via a rubber mount) to the diff. Its like a single, mid-mounted ladder bar. Yes, you have to drop it, along with the driveshaft (see my above post). Its simple. There is one 15mm bolt holding the mount together near the reverse-lockout solenoid on the tail-end of the tranny. There are 2 21mm nuts on 2 long bolts holding it in the diff. Its super easy to get out, but to get it in you need to play with the jack that's under the diff a little bit. Still an easy task though.

Thats the long metal beam that connects the tranny to the rear differential. Remove it and the driveshaft first.

Don't worry so much about it. Once you get under the car it will be more straight forward.
