T56 CONVERSION- half way done. ED and Alex w/in

I'm at the 1/2 mark. Well, I finally hooked up the slave cylinder, it's been cold since I bought the kit. You know what guys that was pretty easy, aside from a few cuts and some agravation it was pretty straight forward. I thank you for your advice it was very helpful. Besides some wiring and a hole for the shifter it should be a direct M6 install.

ALEX AND ED

ALEX: I have some questions about the wiring. The kit I bought did not come with the connector for the switch on the clutch, how should I wire this up? Should I just buy the connector? What kind of wire should I use and did you run them under the carpet?

ED: do you think you might still have it, I might be wrong but I don't think it's on that wiring harness? That would be great if you could send it to me if you do still have it. Hey I'll be calling you to talk about the computer programming. Thanks for everything.

That slave cylinder and pedal conversion was a big PITA. I mean, its easy work but space is soo limited. You know what I'm talkiing about, that stupid master cylinder, a **** load of wires in your face and your kneck way out of wack from not taking the front seat out (a little advice to others doing this, do yourself a favor and take your front seat out if you have the room in your garage).

If you don't want to rig the clutch switch, just short the 2 wires together - the car will start w/o pressing the clutch. I had the switch, so I used something like 12-14 guage wire under the rug. It doesn't have to be pretty.

I told you, you didn't listen to me.

Interesting...I was about to email you Alex.

My question is where do these wires come from? The A4 harness? under the dash? from the old shifter? Do you have the part number for the switch? I dont know if my conversion kit came with it

Thanks Marcin...any way to find which specific ones?

Also did your pedals come with the pigtail if not do you have the part number?

if you are referring to which wires are which from the A4 harness, then the big ones, 12/14 gauge I believe are for the clutch safety switch. I believe they are yellow and brown. The mid sized gauge wires are for the reverse lights and the two smallest are for the hatch release safety switch thingy...(basically keeps you from opening the hatch while the car is in OD/D ) But Alex's site outlines everything that I just said in far greater detail.

JDM- Great to hear everything is going well for ya thusfar.

You see that black connector on the top left (passenger side)? That's the one with all the wires used for all the wiring described in my writeup. It connects to the P/N switch on the A4 shifter.

Alex thanks a ton for that clarification. What are all the other wires in the pic for?....just wondering.

Also is there a pigtial for the clutch switch? If not how do you "rig" up the connection?

there is a black switch mounted to the pedal assembly...if your pedals didn't come with one you could either a) order one from jason cromer or whoever or b) just bypass it like i did. to do this you just connect the yellow and brown wires coming from the a4 harness.

where did you get the T56 kit at? I love everything about my car besides the auto. I have been asking around about doing this swap but nobody seems to know to much. I am really interested in doing this to my car.

Keep an eye open on this board along with other F-body boards. You can pick one up at f-body salvage yards for around 1500 bucks. I got lucky, mine was only 1200 bucks minus center console and clutch disc. Good luck.

Look at this :

I'm at a loss for words on what the connectors are called, but they are push on and can be had at any hardware store.

How hard is this of a project. I really want to do it but I want to make sure it is worth all the trouble. I have a decent knowledge of my car and some common sense. As long as I don't need to be a rocket scientist i think I will be alright. Can I get some feedback from you guys that are doing or have done it on doing this swap. Thanks
