t-top conversion?

Does any one know if it is possible to convert a hard top to t-tops without a whole lot of risk to screwing the car up? Has anyone done it?

It's been done many times, by many people. Here is one website with info. If you do a Google search or maybe a search on this site, you probably will find even more info.

It could be done but your asking for problems. It will never be the same like the ones made by GM.

Not to flame, but what do mean it will never be the same? I guess you live where T-tops from GM NEVER leak.

Take a look at your car witout the headliner, there really isn't that much difference. I know people that have done this and no problems what so ever. Their fit, and finish is no better/worse than those that were done by GM.

I don't know but cutting the roof on a car that was meant to be a hard top to begin with, i would't risk it .The original t-tops on my car don't leak yet knock on wood.By the way you do the conversion and you car ain't original no more.I know it has nothing to do with the question by i thought maybe i would mention that.

Original? Who cares, if you buy a new set of tires, or a battery your car it isn't original anymore. ( assuming you don't buy the same brand that was originally installed.... )

IMHO I really don't think that original matters with a car that there were thousands upon thousands produced.

If I had a Pace Car, or a collector's anniversary car it would be a cosideration, but with a normal Z28, My motto is Modify away

BTW is your car modified?

A shop would be expensive, I would weight the cost of the whole install, and the cost of car similar to yours with T-Tops and if needs be trade in

I can't see this being cheap if you have a shop do it....

What are you really risiking? You are only making the structure the same as a t-top car by just removing one piece of metal on each side of the roof. All other roof structure is the same between t-top and non t-top cars.

From the results I have seen of a good conversion, you could not tell it was not a factory t-top car.

There is no way i would ever sell my car it is my most prized posession and i would never get what it is worth around here. I might take out the head liner and see how hard it looks like it would be and go from there. I am nervous about cutting on my car because i worked a long time to save up for it and i am on a mcbudget because i work at mcdonalds So if i screw my car up i probably can't aford to fix it for a while. I am also concerned about how safe t-tops are if i flip the car?

should have more confidence in your abilities and do it yourself. flip your car? it'd be extremely difficult to flip a camaro, its so low to the ground and definitely not top heavy....I seen a vid of a cop car sliding sideways at like 100 mph after getting psyched out by a kid in a bmw and he didnt flip, so you get my drift.

I relize that it is low and all but if i break a c-clip in the rear axle and lose a wheel it might flip. I have seen a couple 5.0 mustangs do this. I intend to be running 10's by next summer(if i can afford a good supercharger and cam) so that is why safety is a concern. I have confidence in my abilities but i am a busy person and might get in a hurry and screw something up. I got o school and work so i would probably only be able to get a single day off to do this and will need my car the next day. It doesn't sound like this would be a 1 day job so i will probably wait till the summer when i do the other mods, besides t-tops are pointless in the winter. Thanks for the incouragment.
