T/A rear diff girdle, worth it or not??

I'm considering getting one of these to strengthen my stock 10 bolt, seeing as how I'll never afford the 12 bolt rear. Do the T/A rear girdles provide $154 worth of support over the stock one, or should I spend my money elsewhere. Thanks!

If anything, it sure looks better than the POS stock stamped cover.

I would get one, I know it must have helped mine so far.
Looks like you have a 6-speed, not to sure about if it will help it or not. It's the shock that destroys the gears in there (6 Speeds).

If you do get one get the stud kit too[stronger studs instead of the bolts for the bearing caps on the carrier]I think it's 20$ extra for the stud kit[T/A cover]..

thanks for the opinions guys, I just ordered the T/A girdle and stud kit! Hopefully it will provide some extra strength to the rear, or just ge me some peace of mind
I don't realy care about the appearance part of it (going for a sleeper look anyway) but it does look worlds better than the stock one.

GM: 10-bolt, 7.5 in., 8.2 in., differential, solid pinion bearing spacer with shim pack This probally does more for it than the girdle.

It is very easy to install too.

How easy of an install are you talking about? I thought the posi unit had to come out to do that, and that requires reseting the gears.

The posi does have to come out but you will just keep the shims in the same order. You will measure your old crush sleeve and use the shims with the kit to make it the same length as the old crush sleeve. You also have to take out the pinion gear. This is not hard to install at all. It is basically unbolting your posi and putting it all back in the way it came out. IMO it is a must have for a 10 bolt.

I will buy this today if at least one other person can confirm this "easy" install. I'm no master mechanic, but I have self-installed everything in my sig, and I still won't ATTEMPT to install a new clutch myself, let alone mess with the rear end. On the flipside to that statement, I wouldn't trust a shop to install this spacer device at all, they could easily not install it and say they did. I'd rather attempt it myself. Anybody else install this???
easy?
hard??

If you can change all the plugs and wires on your LT1, and put in a new cam, valvesprings, etc. You could probably swap your clutch, and you could probably also do the spacer.

There is plenty of literature on rebuilding rears out there, and some people on this site could prob. help you too, but don't jump into it if you don't feel comfortable with it.
