T-56 output shaft bushing

The tailshaft housing has been off my T-56 for machine work to add a speedometer cable drive. While it was apart, here's a chance to replace to output shaft bushing which was showing some wear. A local transmission shop owner took a look at it and thought it looked just like a TH350 bushing. He knocks out the old bushing, taps in a new one and... the driveshaft yoke won't fit! The O.D. of the TH350 bushing was slightly larger than the T-56 bushing resulting in enough crush to distort the bushing and push it into the oil slots.
Now, to the point...
Has anyone ever replaced their tailshaft bushing and where did you get it? This part is not listed in the T-56 service manual. Not a good sign.

I posted a thread earlier concerning the same issue.

Mine was supposedly for the T56 and did fit the yoke prior to installation. Now, my yoke is too tight to fully enter the housing.

Stumped !!!

Tommy,
I searched through 20 pages of 'T-56' posts but missed yours.
DD Performance is sending me a bushing. They also provided a part #, Clevite 01755.
The part should arrive early next week. I'll let you know how it fits.

Thanks Clutch.

Looks like I'll be removing my housing again tomorrow to see what's going on.

Hey CG -

I took mine apart today and found the same situation you did. The OD was about .005" larger and when driven into the housing it reduced the diameter to the point that the yoke wouldn't fit.

These bushings are basically a strap that's been folded into a ring. They flex at the joint (probably by design) and can distort easily as they are driven into the housing.
The strap thickness was several thousandths thicker than the original one. I originally attributed this to wear, but I've reconsidered after seeing how far off the fit was on the new one.

I reinstalled the original (still fit pretty tightly) and put it back together.
