Symptoms of bad Optispark?
Its a 95 TA with all the normal bolt-ons and the car just hit 115,000. The car always runs real strong except recently it started giving me a problem at wide open throttle. I know I have 2 spark plug wires that are rough.. each one has a knick where a little bit of the inside is showing but its been like that for about 3 months and never gave me a problem. The car seems to run normal even at 3/4 throttle, but as soon as I floor it it misses and then sputters badly and loses a lot of power. The miss doesnt start until about after 4,000 rpm and once in a while it will be fine and then miss again sometimes worse than the first time. I havent the slightest idea what this is but its either wires, optispark, coil, or module. If anyone has an idea what this can be please let me know so I don't spend a fortune trying to change everything thats not broken. I have extra wires for it that I plan on throwing on when I have a day off but I would assume if it was the wires it would miss through the entire rpm range. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the board. Always nice to have a new member. Well seeing as though you have a problem at high revs, I would suspect you are running thin on fuel. Since it's easier to test for fuel problems, why not rule out the possibility of a fuel starvation problem first before you go throwing parts at it. Use the fuel gage that has a hose on it and tape it the windshield. Take it for a ride.
I noticed you have a cotton filter, are you careful that you didn't over oil it? Perhaps it's time to clean the MAF. It also begs the question, when was the last time you did a good tune up. Cleaning somethings and replacing others like fuel filter and the like?
Testing and ruling out somethings and leaving others to be cleaned or replaced is about as basic and simple as it gets. May I make a few friendly and helpful suggestions?
First if you haven't already done so, don't descreen your MAF. Not only is it a waste of time, it may actually be detrimental to the operation of the MAF. The screen helps remove incoming air turbulance(spelling) at the MAF so it may do its job more acurately. It is not restrictive and does not hold back air flow.
Second put more basic information about the vehicle in your signature as well as the mods like A4 or M6.
Last, in the signature at the left with your handle, put your location. Sometimes, not often, a problem can have a solution or a cause from where you are located.

it is not throwing any codes... I even disconnected an 02 sensor before, thinking possibly it could be a bad sensor but it did the same thing in open loop. I guess I can rule that out... I am suprised that the computer isnt even throwing a code for the sensor not even plugged in.. unless that is just an OBD1 thing.
