switching to carb?
switching to carb?
does it add much for a solid roller lt1 stroker to swith to a carb and rear dist with the lt4 carb manifold?
also whats the complete conversion consist of? guess we would not need the computer anymore huh?

Re: switching to carb?
well for me then speedo and tach but on the other hand with a th400 swap you could do away with it huh?
then i was thinking like a accel 1550 cfm throttle body but then i would need injector bungs welded in.
just weighing my options for next (2007) year

I would do a single plane converstion. If they offered a super vic that would fit on a lt1 and then put a big demon carb on it you may gain some then but not with the intake they offer to make a carbed lt1.
I would rather have fuel injection most anyday over a carb. Ive owned 4 cars with a carb. And 1 with fi.

Re: switching to carb?
A buddy of mine is building a 402 ish CUI twin turbo motor in place of his 3.4 v6 for his camaro, its going to be carbed. I tried talking him into going FI but I think he thinks it will be to much of a hassel.
Here is my OPINION on carbs, you can have as many as four different A/F ratios, they are a lot harder to tune, you can't just brake out a lap top and see what its doing and tune the fuel curve and when you did get a carb tuned out best you could it seems like it would take a lot longer then with FI.
Just my .2

How can you guys say carbed is harder 2 get right? The best thing any of you guys to do with an Lt1 is go carbed. If you have any brains at all it's not hard to tune or jet a carb. It's on you not some dumb computer doing your tuning. You all know what a prob it can be exspecially with a lot of mods. Check this out guys maybe this can persuade some of you guys. I have a 95 that had a procharger with a cam and every bolt on possible. I had computer tuned by everyone Ed wright pcm for less a local dyno tune, 2 many to name car never ran right at all. Always problems. So went to a carb with GM's junk dual plane. LT1 with JE 10.5 to1 stock crank 5.7 eagle rods stock heads slightly ported. Comp cam 542 576 230 242 on a 112 that was in the car when it was fuel injected. 750 Quick fuel. 350 trans Coan 4200 stall with brake and a 4.10 gear. Car goes 11.35 at 117 open headers. Sprayed 150 car went 10.0 Breaking up in third (gear to big had to get off in third) Drive the car every day never had a prob in 2 years since I went Carbed. Just some thought if thinking about it
Re: switching to carb?
I don't know, everyone I know with a carb on a smallblock is amazed at how fast and drivable and the milage I get out of my car. The key is to work with the injection rather than against it. Also a computer does not do the tuning a person has to tell the computer what to do in the first place. Sounds like you don't know what the hell you are doing and that was the root of the problem.
