Swapping out Fuel Pressure Regulator?

I just want to make sure im doing everything in the right order and not skipping anything..........

1) Disconnect battery
2) Unbolt fuel rails
3) Bleed fuel pressure
4) Diconnect fuel lines from rail
5) Change regulator
6) Pull spark plugs
7) Connect battery
8) Crank engine...let fuel out
9) Reverse everything?

Re: Swapping out Fuel Pressure Regulator?

No need to let fuel out of the cylinders. I found it easier to just remove the entire fuel rail assembly from the car to swap out the fuel pressure regulator. Blow off the intake manifold around where the fuel injectors seat to prevent dirt from falling into the engine. There's a vacuum line on the passanger side, rear, that connectors to the fuel pressure regulator that you'll need to disconnect. Motor oil on the o-rings works well to make it easier to reseat the fuel rail assembly. If it's a high mileage motor, inspect the injector o-rings ans see if they're cracked; replacement o-rings are cheap insurance. If you're replacing it with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, you'll need to measure the fuel pressure, via the schrader valve, after re-installing and set the fuel pressure desired (43 psi with the vacuum line disconnected).

How does removing the fuel rail get fuel in the cylinders? If the injectors aren't firing i can't see how fuel would get in unless it some how spills in through the injector holes.

My fuel regulator went bad, causing fuel to be sucked up threw my vacum line into my intake manifold, thus filling the cylinders with fuel that wasnt burned because the engine would fire up.

Dont mean to hyjack your thread, but how much Pressure can stock injectors take? and do you gain and power from just adjusting fuel pressure up?

Re: Swapping out Fuel Pressure Regulator?

Unlikely that your cylinders aren't going to fill with fuel; more fuel than normal can cause hard starting. The term "flooded" is more of an expression, not fact. The fuel sucked in by the vacuum line went into the intake manifold, not directly into the cylinders. Just pull your intake elbow, prop the TB blades open and let it evaporate.
