swapping opti spark

Will a 96 opti spark work on a 93 engine. I have a 96 already and I need a new one for my 93.

no 93-94 are non-vented optis 95-97 are vented....and to swap a non vented to a vented you have to change a good number of things.....sucks cause the non vented ones for the 93-94 are more expensive as well.

You'll need a new timing chain cover, resize your camshaft dowel pin and rig a vacuum line to the new opti.

Also a cam, or drill the nose of the 93-4 cam.. [the vented opti goes into the nose of the cam..]and a new timing chain set.. [the cam gear is different..]

This guy is dead-on, my buddy is doing this as we speak, machine shop has his cam drilling out the center hole bigger for the ventend opti, longer dowel pin, he's going with the non-noisy gear drive, custom plate for a 95 style timing cover to keep the cam from walking. 95 cover blocked the crank position sensor unlike 96-97 optis. He went with an old-school 4/7 custom grind cam swap from Comp and it requires some thinking through to make it all work.
