Data logging my car with EFILiveV5pro, my car measured the IAT at "84" (don't know what units) which EFILive scaled to 111 deg F. Also had a reading of "68" which scaled to 82.4 deg F. And finally, a third reading of "67" which scaled to 80.6 deg F.

Sinister. What time elapsed between this readings? Was your engine runing at operating temps?? Was the engine off and cooling off?? did they happen simultanously as in a matter of seconds??

If they happened in a very short interval... like withing seconds there is a problem with your IAT and or PCM. The readings off my car when turned off would take hours to drop that low... depending on ambient temperature... I have left my car out there for ours and the engine was still at 98 degree when I took my IAT readings...

The car had been sitting and had a little heat soak which resulted in the 111 deg F reading. After I started the car, it dropped to 82.4 deg F and then after a minute or so, dropped to 80.6 deg F. Mine is working fine, I think, lol.

Yeah sinister that makes sense. When the car was just sittin... the IAT reached the engines average temp. After you started the engine back again ... fresh air went past the IAT and cooled it off..... thats why you readings went down.

Its working just fine... I thought your readings had gone down quickly while you were sitting in traffic or just driving around. If the car had been sittin for a while that will explain it all.

I re-did the temp versus resistance table using all 22 points along the chiltons temp scale... for more acuracy

this time the reading at 98 degree Farenheit came up
as 1678.5 Ohms and My IAT reads 1732 Ohms

This time my IAT is only 3.18 percent off the chiltons baseline. Not bad for al old IAT.

I guess I dont neet to replace it just yet...

the ECT temp sensor (in the water pump) can have the same results if just a bit off. instead of telling the comp.l say 200 deg.s, it says 230 deg.s (example only) and the mixture is a bit off, creating a low eng. speed stumble that clears up w/rev.s due to not needing such a perfect amount of fuel to "feel" smooth. make sense? so check your ect's also. if its old, cant hurt to try it.

How hard is it to change the ECT sensor? I hope its not a WP removal type deal...

no pump removal. You can either remove the sensor from the top or from the bottom. I recomend removing it from the top

Man this thread took on a life! I wound up going in with a new opti and wires. The car runs better than it ever has, but it was not the cause of a surge. I still maintain that a distressed ignition system cannot cause a surge.

SO you still have the surge I assume That bites. Another member of the board fixed his with an opti swap. Has it improved the surging? Still the same? Can you explain your surge exactly again, it has been a long time...

Have you replaced the coil and ICM yet? I am pretty sure mine is a heatsoak problem. I am gonna overhaul the motor accessory wise in about a month (opti, wires, icm, coil, plugs, o2s, and whatever else i see suspicious) and *hopefully* lose the surge. Did you check your manifolds to see if any of the bolts backed out? In any case, good luck
