Super Ram on LT1 in 3rd gen?
What all if involved in adapting a Super Ram to fit on an LT1? IT will be going into my '88 Trans Am, which originally has a 305 TBI. I've got a lead on a Super Ram base that's adapted to fit an LT1, what else is involved in the swap? Thanks,

It's been done, people swap the Lt1 intake manifolds on third gens so in theory with the right machining you should bre able to swap a sbc intake on an LT1. LPE has done it, it was a feature car in GMHTP, white 25th aniv TA. Also some one who posts on ls1.com or maybe this board too has a 69 Camaro that was a PHR feature, it has a super ram or some thing similar on it. With that said all is it would take is the correct machining so it would bolt up to the LT1. Any case since that one is already adapted, I cant think of much else it would take. I have never done the swap.
e-mail me at nbiswas@mail.uh.edu I will try and dig up the GM high tech with that car in and scan it in for you.

Is there any Super Ram LT1 users? A lot of people say that the LT1 intake is better. The only reason I'm leaning towards the Super Ram is because I've seen a dyno graph where the Super Ram has superior torque to the LT1 intake. The Lt1 doesn't match the Super Ram's power until 5000 RPM. Since this will be a maily street car, I won't be revvning much past 5 Grand. Anyone have any comments???

the superram is like a tpi...its a tuned runner for a givin RPM..the SR will pull ***** in low midrange and still have a very strong top end...the LT! intake makes its peak torque (in sotck form) at 2,400 rpms...with the curve being extremely flat is gets is *** whooped in the midrange to the SR...but till will pull better on top...
Low end---idle to 2,500= LT1 intake SLIGHTLY
Mid range--2,500-4,500= SR by a substantial margin
top end----4,500-6,000= LT1 intake SLIGHTLY
with the LT1 intake being a "ram" type intake, its makes peak torque at a very low rpm,...also by being a ram intake, midrange suffers, but top end is not lost..
The SR is basically a short runner TPI....strong low end, outstanding midrange and a strong top end...
Going by what you said about your car being a daily driver, your rpm range will be mostly in the midrang section....so the SR will be more suited for YOU

Thank you so much! This is what I've been thinking for a while, but my suspicions haven't been confirmed until now. So do you think that buying this SR LT1 intake would be benifial to my daily driver?

Accel e-mailed me back about them stopping production of the Super Ram for the LT1, with this:
Didnt stop producing it. You have a couple of options as far as putting this manifold onyour LT-1. 74196 - SB Plenum/Runner kit (3 inch tall) 74197 - Base Manifold 74196F - Camaro/Firebird LT-1 Plenum kit (2 inch tall)
Does anyone else think the Super Ram is a good setup for a street engine??
