Might want to try a search. Thats definately a weekend or more ordeal. You can find the kit cheaper online. Cam kit is worth about 20-50 rwhp. Get a tune too. Great kit for the $, as long as you want to stay in the 315-340 rwhp range.

Not at the wheels on stock heads. Possibly at the flywheel.

I would say that the MOST you are looking at with that kit is 350 at the wheels....that is often times why you see the kit or at least the cam for sale in the for sale section....because people realize later that they want to go bigger.....so if those numbers don't seem high enough to you (which they don't seem to since you are trying to nickel and dime the HP) then go with something bigger....

I just went with a kit from combination motorsports with a 224/230 which is a step or two higher than the hotcam...

About 330 RWHP.

They have another kit, I think its the LT4 conversion kit w/hotcam, Thats a rip off too. It says its test proven to like over 400 HP or whatever, but really you'd be better off with a good port on stock heads and a decent cam from somewhere else. The hot cam is pretty mild compared to what is out there that is still streetable. If you gotta pass the sniffer though, dont go too big.

Ceebee, with the kit that you went with from Combination Motorsports what eles comes with it? I was just curious because like Pappasmerf18, I am deciding as of right now whether or not to go with the LT4 hotcam kit. I saw the cam you are talking about on the Combination site, but I was just curious as to what else you are getting with the kit. If I do indeed go with maybe something like you are, will I absolutely need a bigger stall for my A4 or even computer tuning? It is for that reason that I figured the LT4 hotcam kit was probably my best bet.

I have enough funds to get the LT4 kit, Comp R lifters, a new timing chain, and pushrods. But, I don't have enough for tuning and a stall at least not yet. Plus, my car is my daily driver so I don't want to go overboard with something I can't drive, but then I don't want to waste money and not get my money's worth of power. If I am going to all the trouble then I want something worth the money.

Anyone got any advice? The car already has midlength headers, gears, cutout, CAI, shift kit and the free mods done so just wondering what my best bet might be. Thanks.

As long as your stock lifters are not damaged and in good shape they should be fine. I reused my stock lifters with 57k on them when I installed the HC kit and they've been fine. Save money on the lifters if they are ok and get the tuning instead. PCMforless tuned mine, he claims to be able to get 15-20 additional hp with his hotcam tuning over the base tune. I don't doubt it at all

The kit that I got basically came with everything but the Lifters, you won't find a kit out there really that comes with lifters...here is what I got with my kit:

Comp Cams 224/230 cam
Comp Cams Pro-Magnum Rocker Arms self aligning
EX Components 612 Valve Srings (fit stock head with NO machining)
EX Components 138 Ultra Light Weight Chromoly Retainers
EX Components 391 Hardened Valve Locks
EX Components 720H Hardened Pushrods

And these gaskets:
timing cover gasket
water pump drive seal
opti seal
crank seal
water pump gaskets
intake gaskets
silicone sealant for intake

All of that came to like 620 SHIPPED....so its not much more than the hotcam kit and it comes with everything including hardened pushrods and the seals....

No matter what cam you go with you are gonna want tuning to get the most gain out of it. Even if you go with just the hotcam, you will be losing out on probably close to 20HP at the wheels by not tuning.....as far as a bigger stall, you will not NEED it, but it will help significantly in the quarter mile....just food for thought...

I think that Combination Motorsports has the best deal by far, you can pick any cam that you want....best thing to do is call them up and tell them what you want outta the car and if emissions is a problem and they can recommend the best cam for you...

Check the Group Buy section for their post about the cam kit and other info

Thats a pretty nice package deal they have, If I was doing it over again I would probably go with that.
