Summit rebuild kit

I am rebuilding my lt-1 right now and I was wondering if anyone has uesd a summit racing rebuild kit? I was looking at the forged kit with a compression ratio of 10.4:1 I think. What do you think about this kit? Thanks for the help.

I used the kit for my rebuild. I would say its a great kit for the price. The pistions are kind of heavy, but I don't rev past 6000 so its fine. All in all I would say its a good buy and the parts are good. Another note is that the Speed pro pistons are a improved design of the old TRW pistons which are no longer made(people still call them TRW pistons). All the stuff is good, if you are on a tight budget. Good Luck.

Thanks for the input. It looks like the kit is good for what you say and your budget. n20ta2 I will be running a setup almost exactly like your and you are running the times I was looking for. Does your motor have the pistons that came with the kit?

Can somebody post the part number for the rebuild kit. Also, what does the kit come with?

Thanks,

The part number is not listed in the summit racing book, just call them adn tell the yo want a sealed power engine rebuild kit for the lt-1. The the kit comes with forged speed pro power pistons, complete speed pro ring set, freeze plugs, main cam and rod bearings, high volume oil pump, and a fel-pro gasket set. Bearings, rings, and pistons are available with the standard bore and various oversizes.

Yeah Im running the pistons it came with,I tookall the sharp edges off of the combustion chamber and pistons with a deburr wheel on my die grinder to help fight detonation. If your planning on running a ton of nitrous its a good idea,If not dont worry about it.It should be running 10s soon Im working on a 9 inch now and thats with only a 175 shot so you can see the potential of the combo.Idont have the part # handy but I could get it for you if you need it otherwise go to summitracing.com and look at the lt1 engine kits its the only one with forged pistons.

nope,Thats for an old school 350.Kit I used is the sealed power engine rebuild kit .I looked in my summit mag and its not listing a part #. You will have to call them up if you want to order, its listing it as 92-97 lt1 350/5.7L Its the one with forged piston there are only too choices and the other has cast hyper pistons.it yeilds 10.40:1 compression and retails for 529.95. It doesnt come with rods or crank but yours might be fine for what you want to do.I upgraded mine and ordered forged eagle "sir" rods summit stocks those too.

I have a couple questions for you guys. I am planning on building a somewhat budget 383. I want to get a forged crank, good rods, and good head work and try to save on everything else. If I get the summit kit will it be good for this? I think it said the forged kit is 10.4 to 1 cr, if I have the heads decked and all that can I get the CR in the 11.5 to 1 range? Should I go with 5.7 or 6 inch rods? This will be my first engine build but I have quite a few experienced friends at my disposal.

thanks
Brett

Who else has some real-time experience with speed pro products? How have they worked for you?

Thanks!
