By II they mean vented... look at the application chart, only vented opti cars listed.

Re: Summit Optispark II?

From the WEB site:
New ignition for your LT1.
Replace your stock LT1 Optispark II distributor with our all-new Summit LT1 Optispark II distributors. These distributors feature an aluminum housing with heavy-duty oilite bushings, and a glass-reinforced cap with high dielectric strength and brass terminals.

This discription infers there are some small differences.

Re: Summit Optispark II?

The discription sounds exactly like what Accel's says. Why is everyone just now starting to make opti's but dont have them in stock?

Re: Summit Optispark II?

Best Opti on the market right now is the Pro-Billet LT1 MSD. MSD-8381 (non-vented) MSD-83811 (vented) $499.88 ea.

Discription:

MSD's hot Pro-Billet LT1 distributor is designed to replace the GM Optispark unit. It features an advanced optical encoder matched to a rugged billet body with an extra cap bolt to eliminate leaks, a drive assembly indexed to the shaft so it can't slip, and a hefty ball-bearing support assembly good to 10,000 rpm. A clever mechanism allows you to vary timing +/- 5 degrees and the distributor is topped by a heavy-duty cap with brass terminals. Mounting hardware included.

Re: Summit Optispark II?

How is that the best when nobody has it? I'll stick with my over rated Dynaspark.

Then why do they list part numbers for the vented, non-vented, and the "optispark II"

Genuine GM vented and non-vented optisparks, dynaspark, The Accel optispark II, and the summit optispark II. MSD is supposedly coming out this summer, but who really knows. Then there are the LTCC, and Delteq coil conversions using the optical side of the opti.

That is the big question. I don't think I can wait that long.

Re: Summit Optispark II?

the stock ones arent that bad. they last on average 100,000 miles. Thats just fine in my book. I got 140K out of my original one, and I purchased a GM one for my new 383 going in this weekend.

I wonder if this is just fancy marketing terminology or if these distributors will actually perform as advertised.
