Suggestions on Mods

My Camaro Is a Daily driver. Should I go with some 3.42s or 3.73s.I was thinking about going with the Lt4 Conversion. Ive Read That Lloyd Elliotts packages are better for your money. Could someone post his link or web address. My mods are listed in my signature. Any other suggestions are appreciated.....Thanks

Re: Suggestions on Mods

3.73's are fine for daily driving, no problems at all here. Eportworks.com is llyod's site. Yes you are correct, the LT4 conversion is a big waste of money and you can go faster for cheaper by going with llyod Elliot. You may also want to get some longtube headers, or if emissions are a concern then at least get some mids.

Re: Suggestions on Mods

Which gears do you have right now? It depends how much you drive on the highway and how high you want it to rev. With 3.23 gears im at about 2,100RPM going 70MPH and i wouldnt want it to be much higher. Elliots site is http://www.eportworks.com/

Re: Suggestions on Mods

With traction and that stall perhaps mid 13's. Before you consider H/C you need to take a walk down exhaust lane and get some Longtubes. Then I woudl consider gears, most cams like 3.73's. Your stall would suggest a large cam with some nice heads, but its not necessary. With forged internals you might want to look into a Supercharger, Turbocharger, or N2O to keep streetability.

What are your goals for the car?

Even if you are in the 12s, the supercharged and Mach 1s will still sneak up on your. I would personally go with Lloyd over the LT-4 package simply because he has better prices and proven better gains.

Re: Suggestions on Mods

I hated my 2.73 with a passion.Great highway gear sucked around town big time I thought. My heavy vert ran 15.0 at 95mph with 2.3/2.4 60fts and after installing magnaflow catback and 3.42 it ran 14.3 at 96mph with similar 60fts.

I know some say they don't get gains with gears but I seem to get 3 to 4 tenths out of them in my cars. Also went from 3.08 to 3.42 in my 80 ta.
I think the 3.42 are a nice trade off and the car doesn't rev that high on the highway. 3.73 would likely be fine too.
I just got my carrier with 3.42 gm already in there made the swap much easier and cheaper. And gm gears are usually the quietiest. Had some bad luck with richmond 3.73 and even motive gm 4.10s.

I also went with only 2800 vig but got it cheap off board or would have gone 3200 likely since the vert is heavy. Times above are run at 1700 feet altitude. From tazzo tests, its like a gtech my car seems to be able to run 13.7/13.8s now since added the vig, nitto drags ,some suspension work as you can see in the sig,the underdrive pulley and
58tb. Again my car is heavy vert weighs like 3880 raceweight with now heavier than last track trip crome z06 17s on there also.
From buddies car and depending on your altitude a pure bolt on lt1 at our tracks with even 3.23 and traction can pull off 13.8 or so.take off another 5 tenths for a good stall
13.3 and add some good macs or long tubes and 12s even at our altitude would be pretty easily doable.
At lower altitude well take off a tenth or two and higher you would start adding some tenths back on.
I figure in my heavy car I need long tubes and cam and 1.6 rockers to maybe touch the high twelves at my altitude track. Shooting for a mid to low 12 with planned LE2 heads ,kooks longtubes and already have CC305 and 1.6 rockers to install at same time as heads and cam.
Hoping for 11s possibly high 10s with zex nitrous kit also have sitting around waiting for install.
Too bad its coming winter here and car goes into storage until spring.
I would say flip a coin on the gears..either 3.42 or 3.73 is huge improvement over the 2.73s.Much more fun.

Re: Suggestions on Mods

For what it is worth, here are the results of changes I made to the stock LT1 2.73 97 Trans Am: Timeslips

Towards the bottom you can see some of the bigger gains of gears, drag radials, headers and exhaust with tuning. Keep in mind that one normaly doesn't drive around with drag radials always mounted...
