Such thing as a quiet exhaust on a cammed engine?

Ok i am going with the cc305 cam and i was wondering if i could maybe get rid of some of the exhuats drone i hear on most cammed cars without losing performance..

I will be running a 95 motor with the cc305 cam and shortie headers. I need to know what kind of exhuats sytem to put on my truck. I am not going with cats so that is out of the question. Am i asking to much here to have quiet exhauts with a cam and no cats? Thank you!

Run 2 reverse flow 2 1/2 " in and out mufflers of any brand with an H pipe and it should be pretty quiet. Had that setup with tailpipes on my old 72 chevelle years ago.

Is your truck a full size, or an S-series? Believe it or not, a large three-pass will sound and flow better than the cross-flow muffler. If you have the room, put a resonator (bullet) up front and a larger muffler in the standard truck muffler location. If you have a full size, go get one from an LS1 truck that someone's taken off (or from a junkyard). They flow fairly well and the inlet and outlet tubes are 2 3/4".

There are two things that make for quiet exhaust: silencer volume (with tuning) and back pressure. More volume and you can do with less back pressure. The truck mufflers are very large and they are tuned to quiet the sound period right where you are complaining about.

If you really want quiet and low restriction, dual it with an x or h pipe and put the truck muffler on each side. Then it's heavy, but if you've got a full size, it's an option.
