Stupid Cooling Fans!!! @#$%&*!!!!!
Ok, a few days ago my radiator blew. I took it out and took off all my hoses (They needed to be replaced.) I was washing under my car with a water hose (Getting all that renegade coolant out from under there) and after I finished I noticed that the wires that hook into the fan motors where hanging down and probably got pretty wet. I decided to just wrap them up in a towel and lay them on top of where the radiator shroud would usually be. Well, this morning I got my new radiator put in and when I was putting in my fans they fell. About a foot and a half.....I decided to go ahead and see it would all turn out ok so I hooked it all up and took her for a drive. I was watching the temp guage and the temp just kept rising. It got in the red and all the sudden it dropped to half (I guess the therm. kicked on.) So I pulled in my driveway and parked it. I took a mirror and turned the car on (it was at the halfway mark on the engine temp.) and looked to see if the fans were on.......they weren't.....I let it sit till it got near the red again and the fans still never turned on......I checked all the fuses and they are fine....I read in my Chiltons that I need to jump the motor directly from the battery to make sure the motor is good. I don't know how.....anyways, do ya'll think I screwed up my blower motors??? If not, what else is a possibility? Thanks,
Is this a 1993? If so, just jumper the A and B of the diagnostic connector like you are gonna read trouble codes. That will turn the fans on, too. That should tell you if the fan circuitry is ok. Then you can try to decide what is going on. Perhaps you knocked the connector off the water pump temp sensor.
Yes, it was on my 1993. I'm probably going to go out and do that later (Flashing my computer) I was reading my chilton and it mentioned that coolant sensor so I'll probaby check that out as well. I would do it now but I'm tired. I've been working on my car so much.....yesterday from 8pm - 12am and this morning 5am-11:00 am So I'm gonna get some sleep.....Thanks for the quick response! Anymore suggestions?
One other thing... did your purge all the air outta the system?? Your temp sensor for your PCM is different than your temp gauge. The PCM temp sensor may have an air bubble around it if you didn't purge your coolent system, thus making your PCM not see a high enough temp to engage the fans.
Just wire your own FAN SWITCH.
That way you know when they are on or off... I have my switch wired so that the PCM still controlls them to come on if they need to, or I can just turn them on whenever. (Car on or off.)

Good call but I would wire in a relay so the fans could only come on when the ignition is on. I would be pissed if I forgot to turn my fans off and let them run all night long.

I did that once.
NEVER again!

So it doesn't bother me, I'll get around to it one day, but I haven't been posting enough lately to bother with it... I just rescently started posting again.
Well, I went and flashed my computer like ya'll suggested and the fans turned on! So now I know that the motors are ok and that the wiring leading to the motors work.....but now what??? Something isn't telling my computer to turn the fans on, what is it? That little cooling sensor??
That sensor in the water pump is what tells the computer what the temp is. It is not the same sensor that operates your dash gauge. If you had a scanner, you can monitor what it is reading and tell if it is ok. You can also do some testing with these instructions.
Monitoring with a scanner would be my first choice.

Hey, got another quick question. What is that sensor that is on the Radiator? If you look at your pressure cap there are two hoses directly below it. Below those two hoses is a box with a plug that goes into it. What is that sensor and what does it do? Thanks in advance,

Ok, I'm really starting to get pissed off now......I went and replaced the Coolant Temp. Sensor and the fans STILL don't come on. I unhooked the temp. sensor and the fans kicked on right away. So I took out the old, put in the new, fans STILL don't come on!!!!!! GOT #$%@ IT!!!!!!!! I even let it idle almost into the red and still they didn't come on........What is wrong with my stupid POS???????
