Stumped (long thread)
Stumped (long thread)
Here it goes. My transmission was just rebuilt about 6 months ago. I had a shift kit, servo, kevlar bands, etc. put in it. It drove great and still does but about 3 months after the rebuild, it started getting stuck in second gear. Yeah, it sticks in second and if you have the shifter in D (4th), it will go into a neutral mode. The rpm's drop back down to idle. If you give it gas, the motor has to catch back up to second before it starts pulling again. Here's the wierd thing, if I rev 2nd to about 4 grand, and let off (to let the r's drop), I can rev the car up and it will shift into 3rd. Now, this does this whenever it feels like; driving it hard or just pulling out of the drive way. I hate it cuz nobody can figure it out and I can only race the car to about 75 mph, where it hits the rev limiter. Sometimes it shifts fine, sometimes it doesn't. A tranny guy told me to replace my shift solenoids, but I wanted to see if anyone else had their trannys do anything like this.
Thanks, Benji

No, and the tranny guy hooked his computer up to my car and we drove it to see what the computer was doing. It was actually telling my car to shift, but it wouldn't. The computer thought my tranny was shifting. But yeah, no service engine light.
Sounds like you may have a valve hanging (yes the 4L60 still has a few controlling valves that have fluid run through em), The neutral in 4 sounds like the overrun clutch. But not sure. andway I would change your fluid and filter and check the Valvebody while your under there, if you keep making shift the way you are you may be replacing more than clutches.
What do I look for when I check the valve body in the tranny? I also have another weird fact regarding my haunted tranny. When I had to pass emissions, I had the converter put back on, quieting the car. The tranny didn't mess up bad at all. Put a 3" cutout on their and run it through the flowmaster, and the tranny sticks a little more. Open the cutout and the tranny gets stuck and doesn't want to come out.
