stumbling and pinging

My car will stumble and ping when it is hot at the lower rpms. Anybody have any ideas on what could cause this? I was told to get a tune up, but that is pretty general. You guys have any ideas?

when it pings its runing lean, a basic tune up is a good idea, first thing ide do is change the fuel filter might be slighly blocked, is your car throwing any codes?

yeah generally just at the low rpms. If it happens any other time then I haven' noticed. Normally just happens when I'm starting out in first. but sometimes it happens in second if I switch gears when I'm slow.

I don't know about the codes, nothing is lit on the dash. I guess I'll swing by autozone tomorrow and get it scanned.

Also, what exactly is involved in a tune up. As soon as I was told it needed a tune up I took it to a shop up the street, they quoted me $1300. That's more money than I'm willing to pay for a tune up.

That actually isn't all that uncommon for these cars. Its a real PITA to change the plugs and wires, friend of mine was quoted 500 dollars just for labor...I was like dude we'll do it ourselves...we did, but man it was tough, broke off a plug and all kinds of BS...find a local fbody club join up and sometimes they have days where everyone will get together and help out on eachothers cars, its great fun and helps save some major $$$

main thing is changing the spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, 1300 are they on crack, do yourself a favor and buy a car manual and do the tune up yourself

I have the plugs and I know about the wires...do you guys recommend and particular fuel filter? Or are they mostly the same quality?
