Stud Girdle Needed w/ This Cam?
Stud Girdle Needed w/ This Cam?
Cam is 225/233 .557"/.579" 114lsa
Should I put a girdle on it or will I be fine with out it. Rockers are Comp Cams Hi-Tech Stainless 1.6 ratio. Springs are stock AFR for 210cc heads, AFR rated to .670" lift.

Re: Stud Girdle Needed w/ This Cam?
I think it will be fine. By the size of that cam I dont see it going higher than 6500 anyways. Is this on a 355 or a 383/396? I would use a little more cam to take advantage of those great heads. just my .02
Re: Stud Girdle Needed w/ This Cam?
Alright, thanks.
I would use more cam too, but this is what came in the engine when I bought it. I'm gonna run it just to see what it's like and get the car sorted out, then worry about a race-only cam.
383 w/ Vortech YSi btw.
Rich, why is that? I've heard of many guys using them (Z8's comes to mind) granted in more of a race oriented setup which is what this motor will be once everything's sorted out and a proper camshaft designed. I've read where Bret Bauer has recommended them as well. Already have the girdle from my previous motor which was a 355 w/ a 236/243 .582/.593 114lsa cam, but sold it before I ever ran it. Was supposed to spin to 6800-7000rpm.

Re: Stud Girdle Needed w/ This Cam?
You definatly dont need a stud girdle on that setup
Just use 7/16" studs and you will be fine. Stud girdles are alot of work
I had one on my solid roller 396 a couple years ago.

Re: Stud Girdle Needed w/ This Cam?
That's what I thought, and yes it was looking to be a lot of work. Just had it sitting around so I figured I'd see if it would even be worth doing, but I think I'll save the hassle for when I get a cam big enough to need it (or maybe shaft rockers, hehe). And yes, have 7/16" studs.
