stroker cam question

I am really stressing over what cam to put in my 383 project. I will start by giving you a rundown of what I am getting or have already:

383 LT1- Scat Cast Crank- forged 6" I beam rods- forged pistons- spin balanced. It has an 11.8:1 compression ratio. The heads will be ported LT1 Heads w/2.00I 1.54E valves and Comp 987 springs to go along with the CC 1.6 RR's. They should flow ~ 270 on the intake and ~190 exhuast @ .600 lift. Won't know for sure til they are done, but this is what they usually get. It will also be getting a Meziere water pump with a L98 roller timing set, Hardened chrome moly pushrods, and comp lifters.

Now with all that said here is my situaton. I want a stout motor(duh ), but everyday drivability. I really want 425 or so RWHP, which I think should be pretty obtainable since stock bottomed cars are getting ~400 regularly. I was looking at the GTP-5 cam(236/236dur 560/560 lift). But everyone I know is saying that even bigger cams like CC306's aren't really enough for a healthy 383. I have been told that the GTP-6 or a CC306 would be the minimum cam for my application. So I ask you guys--help me figure out a good cam for me.

I will be daily driving this beast. I spend ALOT of time on the interstate and I don't want it to be a chore driving to a from work. Has to idle decently(with a good chop ) and have SOME low end torque. This motor may see a 150 shot down the road so keep that in mind. And...solid roller is a DEFINATE NO! The GM 847 cam has been suggested-but I can't find any info on it.

Well---I think that just about covers it.

I really like this cam from Speed Demon Motorsports. I bet this cam rocks!
SD-X2341-X290-112+4

234/239 284/290 0.579/0.592 112lsa 108 IC. This camshaft is designed for an all out 355 setup, and works very well in hot 383 or 396 setups. It will require custom programming, gears, and a higher stall speed converter. Idle will be better than the cc306, and power should be slightly increased but with a broader torque band. This camshaft is available only on a billet core. Comp "R" series pro magnum lifters recommended.

You might PM 96z about his hyd. roller 433 rwhp 383 which sounds a lot like yours. It might have too much low end torque for you, however. It has more than SOME.

zhevy-1 - That sounds like a good one

SWINGRRR- Hopefully I will be in this weekend...working over...May pull a 21 day hitch, I gots to pay for all this.

Gripenfelter-yeah I was looking at the 236/236 @ 560/560 but was told to go bigger...

I was thinking about this while me and Kim were bowling tonite. Why not call Combination Motorsports, or the like, and just have them make you a cam? I think it goes for around $400.
Are you geting Davids heads? If so, lucky bastard!!!!

SWINGRRR - I may just call some folks for a custom grind...but I am a little time pressed(car is limping my dad to work and back while I have his truck over here). Do they have a web site> I will do a search. GTP has some big bad cams...Like the GTP-8---246/254 @586/595... but I still want to drive this thing.LOL

No I can't use Dave's heads...with them being milled .030 my compression woulda been in the 12.3 area...I am pushing the pump gas limit now...they say you can run up to 12.5:1(mike's car was 12.5) on 93 octane...but that is too close for comfort IMO.

Im using the GM847 in both my 350 camaro, and also in a 383 impala SS.

The Imp is a 3000 stall, 3.73 gear, ported lt4s etc etc. You can hear the cam, but its not choppy. No cam surge can be felt. Car ran 110 traps (4500+ lbs race weight, partial throttle off line). Should be making roughly 425 rwhp through 4l60e. Crane also offers this grind.

In the Z, you can really hear it, little surge here and there, but still love it.
