stroker or blower?
I have a 97 6 speed z and I'm looking into doing some serious perfromance mods. The car is basically stock right now with 37,000 miles on the clock.
Can I get some opinions from you guys?
I'm trying to decide between just pulling the motor and doing a 396, or doing a vortec or procharger and running it 'till it hurts and then doing the motor. The final goal is good power that I can drive on a daily basis if I want to (summer car). We have no inspections to pass here in Michigan, so as long as it's not rediculously loud and will run on pump gas the options are open.
What kind of $$ am I looking at, and how long will the stocker last with about 6lbs of boost? what kind of rwhp can i expect?

The stroker will prolly last longer, but the blower will be more street friendly. You will prolly see about similar power out of a blower setup on a relatively stock motor and a well put together stroker. They will also cost about the same. I was thinking the same thing, but decided I am going to build a forged high compression 383 that will be used primairly N/A, but I will have a fogger system for when I go to the track or need to take care of a certain pesky Saleen S-351 that is built to all hell.

I vote for doing a stock type rebuild with good rods and pistons for now. Get a blower cam, and work the heads over for a blown setup. Then get the blower setup when you can, and go very fast. I built a forged 383 with the intention of nitrous and I have barely had it a month. I am already thinking about building a second motor for low compression and 355ci and set it up for a blower. N/A and nitrous is fun, but continuous 550-600rwhp on pump gas is better.

Nitrous just compounds on top of a blower. Go dual power adders and never worry about any car on the road again.

since it has so few miles on it id just put a procharger on it and be done with it. if it had more miles and you were gonna need a rebuild in the near future, no reason not to go big NA.

sterling heights...........do you have any feed back on shops in the Mich area?
i dont know of any good ones for motor stuff and such but d&s motorsports in livonia does good exhaust work. ask around in the michigan, greatlakes... etc. forum on the main message board.

As nice as that would be, I am talking daily driveable (kinda) 600rwhp. With dual power adders you start to need things like billet rods and it gets exponentially expensive.
There is a guy from MN on here, but he is rarely in the LT1 tech forum. He has a stock appearing 94 Z28, and it put 1003/85x to the rear wheels on a single power adder. Boost, when setup right doesn't need nitrous to be disgustingly fast.
All I am saying is that 550-600rwhp is relatively inexpensive and reliable when compared to the option of 850-900 that you might get near with a dual power adder car.
If you can't make that power, you just don't have enough boost

Then again, with a blower you can't just "speak" to the computer and tell it to only run at 12psi for daily driving. I say make the most power you can N/A, and then spray the fugger to the moon.

Stroker or blower? Absolutely, positively,.....both.
You'll need a rebuild anyway to run the blower effectively, so do the forged 383 with a blower and you'll be tough to beat.
