Stripping a '96 to be a road race car - electrical question

Who has done this and been successful?

I am not trying to strip out every last circuit, but I do want to get rid of what I can w/o too much hassle.

I am using the the key switch, but the steering column is gutted except for the 2 wires that connect to the tumbler assy. that included the turnsignal, horn and airbag wiring. What of this am I gonna have to hook back up to make the car run?

It appears the car should start from what I can tell from the wiring diagram. But I'm no sparky and am double checking my schematic skills.

Have you spoke with Glenn? I know he is making a LT1 style Firebird into a road racer. Wish I could help, good luck.

I'd personally recommend re-wiring the car..it's probably easier than all you've done. Painless sells 18 circuit harness' that you can even put power windows in, plus a radio. It most likely means and aftermarket Engine control, but that's more what you'd want anyway, for tuneability..

Just my $.02

Yes, Glenn and I are building cars in tandem. He is quite a bit farther along than I am and I am learning from his experience.

Chris, all I really want to do, is remove as much of the interior wiring harness as I can. For a race car, I really don't want electric windows, locks and a Monsoon.

All I need inside is power for the guages and brake lights. I can live with a toggle/button to run the fuel pump, fans, ignition ...

I am definitely gonna give Painless a call ... but it appears to be very simple
