Stressed Metal sound from brakes

I replaced my stock rotors and pads with Hawk pads and powerslot rotors about 2 months ago.

I noticed under moderate braking that I am getting a stressed metal kind of groan from the brakes. It sounds like when a big metal object (bridge or ship or something) is being stressed to its tolerances.

I don't hear the noise at normal stopping or during hard stopping. I have only done two really hard stops though and it stops incredably from 55mph.

The noise does go on and off so I thought possibly the abs??? But I only hear the sound from the front right brake. Stopping doesn't seem to be affected but the sound is a little unnerving.

What causes this?

Maybe sticky caliper guide pins.

How would I fix that?

And seriously, Thank you Shoebox. Almost every question I have ever asked, you have had the answer too. I am always at your site too, for the install guides and pictures. I can't imagine the number of dollars you have saved me either.

maybe its the abs working PERFECTLY with your new brake system... like allowing the brakes to get to the very edge of braking without locking...? but i would trust shoebox over me... my .02

The only way you can see if that is really it, is to take the caliper apart to check the pins. They should lubricated when you do a brake job, but I am guilty, myself, of not doing it. They also have boots on them to keep grunge out. The pins and boots are replaceable and if the pins are corroded, they should be replaced. Replace the boots if they are torn.

This is a view of a rear caliper and you can see where the pins are. The fronts are somewhat similar. The caliper bracket should slide easily and smoothly on the pins.

[edit] Front caliper. The mounting bolts are the guide pins.
