The coil is a Hypertech.

I was just under the impression that the opti either works or is dead...not much room in between. Am I off there?

 

Most of the time, the opti will show symptoms of failure before actually failing completely. It's a good possibility if it's the original non-vented unit.

 

The opti was replaced around 55k miles. Not saying it couldn't be bad again, but it's not the original.

 

actually, it sounds more like the plug that goes into the top of the opticrap is vibrating out. and just enough so that you cant start the car. reach down on top of it and disconnect the plug....check it for corrosion and dirt...plug it back in, making sure that it seats all the way.....try to fire it over again.

Your problem sounds just like our car also and I can't figuire it out either the car runs and idles just fine then outta the blue it quits wait a few minutes and it runs fine we've owned the car for 1 month now and it has quit 3 times it ran great for 2 weeks then bam it did it today if anybody fiquires it please let us know?

I had a very similar problem..... Car started fine when COLD, but would die when hot, and couldn't be restarted. Solution... Replace Opti.

 

ours will die hot or cold it just picks its moments! But when its running hold on tight!!
