Strange Idle Surge???

Alright so i finally got my car put back together after changing the header gaskets. My car has had a "random missfire" for quite some time now...and i think i finally figured it out...i left a vacuuming tube open when i did EGR! ..... so i plugged that up...but when i started my car up it would go down to about 700 rpms and almost stall out and then go to about 1300 rpms all of a sudden....after about 10 min this stopped....could u guys explain this one?

Re: Strange Idle Surge???

The PCM might have been readjusting itself alittle since you plugged that whole up.

Re: Strange Idle Surge???

your throttle position sensor might be bad. If that is the case then it will def surge like you say it is. Also check all your vacuum hoses, especially the pvc. Did it do this before header gaskets?

Re: Strange Idle Surge???

if all you did was change freakin gaskets then nothing should have changed. I would leave the vacuum lines the way they were. Must have had no problem before all this.

Re: Strange Idle Surge???

im gonna try running the car without that vacuum line closed ...but i dont see how that would effect it since that "should" only make things worse....this was the vacuum line to my egr valve

Re: Strange Idle Surge???

well since you dont have egr then you might have plugged it into something else. If it is an egr tube it should not have to be plugged up at all. All of my egr/air stuff has been taken off and the motor looks so much cleaner now. I hope all this helped.

Re: Strange Idle Surge???

i checked it again and im pretty sure this is being caused my intake elbow...it had been torn for awhile and i havent gotten around to buying another one....it is an extremely loud rushing air sound. Could someone also send me pics of what your motor looks like without the EGR and AIR..i wanna make sure i got it all right. my email is thecalifornian87@yahoo.com
