stout 1.6 rocker setup on stock cam (for now)
stout 1.6 rocker setup on stock cam (for now)
i wanna build a stout valvetrain (in prep for the nice cam ill be adding) my question is what is the best setup? can i use the comp 918 springs with the stock cam? heres what i was planning:
comp 918 springs
1.6 rockers (self- aligning and narrow) what brand??
some form of guide plates (recommendations?)
hardened stock length pushrods
now what should i use for locks and retainers and such? what are the misc. parts ill need?

Re: stout 1.6 rocker setup on stock cam (for now)
Stout valvetrain setup doesn't go well with self aligning rockers and self aligning rockers don't go well with guideplates.
Here's my version of a stout setup:
Comp cams pro magnum 1.6 non-self aligning wide body rockers for 7/16 studs 1305-16.
ARP 7/16" studs 134-7103
GM 14011051 guideplates.
Comp cams Hi teck pushrods 7940-16.
Sorry can't help you on the retainer/locks.

Re: stout 1.6 rocker setup on stock cam (for now)
You only need to bend a few of the internal supports out of the way in the valve covers with the Pro Magnums.
For springs, the LT4 springs, retainers and locks are perfect in this situation and are extremely inexpensive.
I agree with sssalah's other recommendations.

Re: stout 1.6 rocker setup on stock cam (for now)
The LT4 springs support lift to .525". Plenty for 1.6's with the stock cam.
I assume that the NEW cam with 1.6's will exceed this, so you're looking at the 918's?
Use Comp's 787's with 648 locks for an LT1 application if you're looking for a steel retainer.
RE: Valve covers - The driptabs will require a little grinding for clearance...about 60% did it for me.
