Stock Z with like 10 MPG

I bought my car about 2 months ago, and ever since i got it it goes through gas like there's no tomorrow. It had the bottle before I got it. Could it be something in the computer, Fuel pressure changed, or bad O2 sensors.

O2s, plugs, wires, fuel pressure regulator, exhaust leaks, bad opti/coil, clogged cat, bad fuel, or a combination of all of them, could cause poor gas mileage.

I resently check my 97 it was at 11.16 mpg. I did plugs and wirers and had Chevy reflash the PCM to stock, just in case. The car is stock. Went to 13.00mpg.

must be something up with 97s, as my mileage is hovering around 10mpg with a tune up.

I would definately try a tune as I think it would help the most but it could be any number of things as Ramair95TA stated. Just start somewhere and see what helps.

good luck,

You need some scan data from a test drive. That should give ideas on what is going on.

Through careful Testing I discovered that My IAT sensor would have erratic readings when the engine was warmed up, yet when the engine was at ambient temp it would test just fine.

I had 12mpg at times and other times close to 13.8mpg. never the same. I finally replaced the IAT and it has been consistenty at 13.5MPG ever since then, I am satisfied with the results. One less gremlin to take care of.

Point being is that in your case it could be a combination of problems. I am sure there is something else in my car that will increase that MPG to at least 16mpg average.

13.5?? Guys I'm getting around 20MPG on mine with 75% highway driving...if you can't pull 17 or 18 around town theres something wrong. On a long highway trip (the best way to measure it) I can pull 27MPG...

I would have to say that something isn't right here. I put my foot into it fairly often, and can't ever remember getting below 15mpg and that was at a road course. I would definitely suggest a full tune up as that is just way too low.

Sucks to be you Ryan. I like my 94 Z28, I can mash the throttle all day long and still pull 19 mpg.
